Migrating your network to 100G has never been easier!
Another new optical module has undergone tests at the Salumanus fiber laboratory. QSP28 100G is an optical insert adapted for multimode fiber applications. Significantly increases the cost-effectiveness of network migration from 10G to 100G.
Multimode or single-mode fibers?
Until 10 — 20 years ago, the Data Center was mainly equipped with multimode fibers (multimode). They account for nearly 100 percent of the internal DC cabling built in the first decade of the 21st century.
Multimode fibers were a natural choice due to their lower price and good transmission performance over short distances. The kind that administrators need to transfer data between racks located in a single data center. The maximum transmission range of multimode fiber is 2 kilometers.
Currently, the newly built Data Center invests equally in single-mode and multimode fibers. So-called single mode fibers have many advantages, but the most important is the ability to transmit data over long distances, without significant signal distortion and attenuation. They are ideal for connecting DC branches that are even several tens of kilometers apart.
The requirements for data transmission are constantly increasing, which forces data centers to constantly evolve. However, the placement of new single mode fibers is associated with considerable costs. It is preferable to strengthen the existing infrastructure. What's the way out? Standard multimode modules use 8 fibers. When migrating from 10G to 100G, we turn off 4 pairs of multimode fibers and increase the bandwidth by 2.5 times on each pair of fibers.
What if we doubled the stakes?
GBC Photonics QSP28 100G SWDM4 optical module allows you to multiply the bandwidth of one pair of multimode fibers by 10 times! - Without changing the optical fiber, without adding more fibers, we can easily migrate from 10G to 100G. It is a solution dedicated not only to the Data Center, but also to telecommunications operators who use xWDM systems — translators Marcin Bala, CEO Salumanus.
Is 100G not enough? It's great, because Salumanus engineers are currently working on an analogous solution that will allow you to migrate from 10G to 400G. GBC Photonics QSP28 400G SWDMR8 modules will be available soon.
