XVI Days of Light: how to meet the growing demand for network bandwidth
In addition to lectures on optical technologies and wireless networks and cloud solutions, a debate with the participation of representatives of the largest telecoms and data centers is planned. The conference is organized by Salumanus and DCN Europe.
The Days of Light Agenda, as always, refers to the latest developments in network technologies. This year we will talk about, among others, the increasingly popular coherent modules, the use of the O-band band, as well as news in the field of transmission security - quantum encryption.
However, the greatest attention of experts will be focused on the need for continuous development of optical transmission. Forecasts of research institutes indicate a significant increase in both the value of the optical transmission market and the demand for wave propagation systems (xWDM). The Global Optical Communication and Networking Market Size report states that the global optical communication and networking market size will exceed $48.74 billion by 2032. By comparison, in 2022, this market was valued at $21.36 billion.
- It is natural that the growing demand for bandwidth is not being kept up with fiber investments. So you need to get the most out of the infrastructure that is already available. Therefore, we consistently point to passive and active wave multiplication systems that give us the possibility to increase the bandwidth of the existing network up to 96 times — points out Marcin Bała, CEO of Salumanus.
Notably, the IP-over-DWDM solution brings significant savings in maintenance costs, which allows the optical modules to be mounted directly in IP devices — routers or switches. Eliminating transponders and muksponders in the network can significantly save energy consumption (up to 90 percent in the network backbone) and investment costs (up to 65 percent compared to traditional wave propagation systems built on transponders and muxponders).
During the conference, new functionalities of the GBC Photonics Smart Recode Device programmer will be presented. The flagship Salumanus device has been enriched, among others, with support for 800G and 1.6T bitrate modules. — We have also added the ability to program OSFP modules. But the most important change is the possibility of full mobility of technicians who, equipped only with SRD and a smartphone, are able to perform diagnostic activities and freely manage the compatibilities of optical modules — explains Andrzej Wojnar, architect of Salumanus solutions.
Experts from DCN Europe will take care of LAN and Wi-Fi. — Our lectures will primarily have a practical and business dimension based on experience in network building. We'll answer the most frequently asked questions about Managed Wi-Fi, show the pros and cons of testing new hardware on carrier networks, and consider the benefits of cloud solutions — announces Jarosław Gorczowski, CEO of DCN Europe.
The Days of Light Conference brings together network engineers, managers and technical directors from telecommunications companies and data centers every year. Attendees have the opportunity to discuss their individual networking requirements, as well as test products at the organisers' booths.
In this edition of the Days of Light, you can take part in person at the Novotel Centrum in Warsaw or register for the online broadcast. The conference is free for partners Salumanus and DCN Europe. More information and registration form at: dniswiatla.com
