Nowadays, a fibre optic cable is a high-demand commodity for the telecommunications industry, however, the physical installation of the cabling is fairly expensive and difficult, especially on long distances. To make a better use of the fibre optic resources we can rely on wave division multiplexing technology which joins a number of signals in a single optical fibre. This is possible due to a different wavelength (frequency) used for the transportation of various data. There are two technologies available in the xWDM product family: CWDM (Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing) which is an ideal option for small and medium size operators managing metropolitan area networks, and DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) which facilitates intercity connections and at the same time offers a several times greater number of available transmission channels.
